Hella used to sell an aftermarket kit for pre-facelift E39s that includes two new facelift tail lights, ballasts, and instructions for fitting. I beleive it also involved cutting a little bit out of one of the openings on each side. I bet if you search the E39 section of this site you can find threads of people installing the kits. The easiest indication for me would be the led in the head lights and tail lights. Front end is more a giveaway. I have a PreLCI 2010 with the LCI tails and it looks the same in the rear as the LCI e92 (2011-2013). PreLCI and LCI e90's are different in the front and rear so they are easier to tell. Appreciate 1.
The fifth generation of the BMW 3 Series range of compact executive cars is designated under the model codes E90 (saloon), E91 (estate, marketed as 'Touring'), E92 (coupé) and E93 (convertible). The model was introduced in December 2004, [7] and produced by BMW until October 2013 and is often collectively referred to as the E90 or E9x.
BMW have a 6 year cycle on their cars before they phase in the new generation. 3 series. E46 started production in 1999 and lasted until 2005. E90 2006 to 2012 etc And every 3 years they have a series revision update or LCI. On the E90 they also included a major change under the bonnet. The pre-LCI X7’s face was its biggest point of contention. BMW said big grilles were in and that it was the right directions. Fans, very loudly, disagreed. BMW’s given the BMW X7 Facelift an
Pre-face lift for me, I had a 2001 325ci convertible and a 2004 M3 and although the M3 never received the facelift I prefer the early look, although saying that I do like the later cars as well
Location:Wellington. Car:E30 M325i tech1. Car 2:8P S3 6MT. Car 3:205GTI 1.9. Report post. Posted September 6, 2008. The fl 325i had revised (better) engine management. 1.1 to 1.3, or 1.0 to 1.3, or 1.0 to 1.1 depending on where you read it. The easiest/quickest way to spot the difference is the chrome.
It's a widely misused term. I agree that the only wide-body is the 2.8 pre-facelift. All facelifts (and that includes 1.9s and the relatively rare 2.8 facelift) are the same size and I just call them facelifts but medium-body is a more contextual description. It's the same with calling a car a 'Z3 Sport'.
If you are to get the pre-facelift model, the BASE 2.5 is a little under powered (took out a lot of fun especially if you want automatic.) But if you plan to keep the car for a long time (and depreciation of one more year is not an issue), you can probably get a brand new 2006 with huge discount from dealers that still have them (quite of few
On the pre-facelift 1.9 they are built into the headlights. On the pre-facelift 2.9 they are on the bumper as they are on your car. The facelift changes are mainly around the rear of the car (which is why we sometime cheekily refer to it as the ass-lift) - different boot lid, rear side panels, tail lights, third brake light etc.
Good morning r/BMW. I have been looking around to purchase an E39. I saw one yesterday and these were some things to note. 1997 540i with 129K Miles (not M-tech) Cosmetics are 8/10, interior is 9/10. New coil overs, new rotors and pads. Left rear window does not go down. Sunroof plastic piece broke - needs fixing for it to work.
The W212 is a much bigger, heavier car, with all of the things that come along with that, good and bad. Drive both, see which one feels right to you. If you like smaller, more agile cars, the W204 is probably going to. If you like more luxury oriented, softer rides, the W212 probably will. r/mercedes_benz.
